‘A River Speaks’ Translating Aquatic Voice and Re-Animation of Fluvial Monstrosities

Abstrakt

Głos rzek jest polifoniczny i trudny do zrozumienia, bo co to właściwie oznacza, że rzeki „mówią”? Artykuł przedstawia argumentację za tym, że może chodzić o coś w rodzaju eksperymentowania ze słuchaniem i słyszeniem rzek, a przede wszystkim z wyobrażaniem sobie wodnego głosu, aby przekazać istotne przesłanie w imieniu empirycznych rzek, które polega na byciu wrażliwym i/lub odpornym na antropogeniczne zmiany w ich środowisku. Przekaz rzek można przetłumaczyć i prześledzić w akwakrytycznym studium na wybranych źródłach, takich jak teksty ludowe i literackie. Artykuł stawia tymże źródłom pytanie o silną reprezentację rzek postrzeganych jako istoty sprawcze np. podczas powodzi, czy o rzeki będące stronami komunikacji w zbiorowych światach złożonych z ludzi, nie-ludzi, a nawet duchów.

Anna Barcz - Instytut Historii im. Tadeusza Manteuffla Polskiej Akademii Nauk

Anna Barcz – doktor habilitowana, pracuje w Instytucie Historii (PAN) w Warszawie; była stypendystką Marie Skłodowska‑ C urie w Trinity Long Room Hub w Dublinie i Rachel Carson Center w Monachium; absolwentka MISH‑ u na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim (magisterium z filozofii) i filologii angielskiej; wychowanka Instytutu Badań Literackich (PAN). Humanistyce środowiskowej i relacjom ludzi ze zwierzętami poświęciła trzy książki: dwie w języku angielskim – Environmental Cultures in Soviet East Europe: Literature, History and Memory (2020) i Animal Narratives and Culture: Vulnerable Realism (2017); oraz jedną po polsku – Realizm ekologiczny. Od ekokrytyki do zookrytyki w literaturze polskiej (2016). W najnowszych badaniach naukowych zajmuje się wpływem ekokrytyki na historiografie rzek i kulturową adaptacją do groźnych zjawisk w antropocenie. Kierowała zespołami badawczymi czytającymi rzeki (Wisłę i Odrę). Lubi obmyślać nowe słowniki (ostatnio – akwakrytykę i deep blue maps).
